Phap Lam Industry was originated from Europe and has developed brilliantly from 13 century to 18 century. The products mainly served royal and aristocrat families. Approximately early 13 century, this industry was introduced into Asia, mainly in China and Japan. The Chinese are well known for the making of Cloisonné and Painting Enamel, which are the pride for Chinese people until now while Japanese are famous for another kind of Phap Lam called Shipouaki.
This unique industry was imported into Vietnam early 19 th century by King Minh Mang when he took some Vietnamese workers to China for the studying of Phap Lam in China. Hue’s Phap Lam is especially unique with embossments, large pictures decorating for large projects, and colors and contrast are talentedly and expressively created by Vietnamese artisans.
Decoration using Phap Lam Hue existed only over half a century during the Golden period of  Nguyen Dynasty from King Minh Mang to King Tu Duc, and was gradually dropped out of vogue and became lost.
